Mail
Filters & rules
Filters sort your mail for you. Set a rule once and every matching message that arrives is filed, starred or marked automatically.
Create a filter
Open Settings → Filters and add a new filter. Give it a condition, then an action.

Settings → Filters: one rule, condition to action.
- 1Filter name: a name so you can find the rule later.
- 2Conditions: match on who the mail is from or words in the subject.
- 3Action: the folder to move matching mail to. You can also mark it read or star it.
- 4Create Filter: saves the rule. It applies to new mail as it arrives.
- Condition: match on sender, recipient, subject or text.
- Action: move to a folder, apply a label, star, or mark as read.
How they run
Filters apply to new mail as it arrives, in order. Keep more specific rules above broad ones so the right one wins.
Paid plansAdvanced filters are part of a paid plan. On the free plan you can still organise by hand with folders and labels.
